I started drumming when I
was in elementary school. Hobbies and other activities soon took away my
attention and it wasn't until I was twenty-five before I got back into
drumming with a jazz band. Fifteen years later I started into Scottish music
when my wife and I joined, The Strathsbay and Reel
Society of New Hampshire.
This type of music got me interested into my Scottish heritage and I soon
moved to the Green Mountain Highlanders Pipeband.
There I played bass drum with them for eight years. With that band I had a
lot of memorable times playing in the yearly Christmas Revels. Near the same
time I also played with the New Hampshire Police Association Band and
traveled with them to Washington
DC. for
the National Police Officer's Memorial Week.
I've recently moved to Oregon
and checked out several other bands in the area. I decided to join the Oregon
State Defense Force Pipeband because they seem to
have a nice balance between serious musical interests and playing the music
to have fun. With this band I play the tenor drum and am the back up bass
drummer.
