I started drumming when I
was in elementary school. Hobbies and other activities soon took away my
attention and it wasn't until I was twenty-five before I got back into
drumming with a jazz band. Fifteen years later I started into Scottish music
when my wife and I joined The Strathspey and Reel
Society of New Hampshire.
This type of music got me interested into my Scottish heritage and I soon
moved to the Green Mountain Highlanders Pipeband.
There I played bass drum with them for eight years. With that band I had a
lot of memorable times playing in the yearly Christmas Revels. Near the same
time I also played with the New Hampshire Police Association Band and
traveled with them to Washington
DC. for
the National Police Officer's Memorial Week.
When I moved to Oregon, I checked out several bands in the area. I decided to
join the Oregon State Defense Force Pipeband
because they seem to have a nice balance between serious musical interests
and playing the music to have fun. With this band I am the bass drummer.
